Neti Pot is totally worth the "ew" factor

If you don't know what a Neti Pot is, then you probably have never discussed your general nasal health around me. Most of you know what I'm talking about because I've given you the pitch . . .and probably even demonstrated the concept to you (most likely under protest).

So, if you don't know yet, basically a Neti Pot is a small container, usually resembling a tea pot that cleans out your nasal passages. This is done by filling the container with warm salt water, putting the spout of the container into one nostril, bending over slightly and tilting your head and letting the water run out your other nostril. . . . hold on, I hear you groaning and saying "gross"! I know it seems weird . . . very few people look at this the first time and go, "oh please, can I try!?" Let me tell you why this is totally worth the "ew" factor.

When I was about 16, my mom found this product and started using it. She told me about it and, as any good teenager, I thought my mom had really gone over the edge. Well a year later, I went to see the doctor again about my chronic sinusitis. My doctor recommended that I start using a Neti Pot to help soothe my ailing nose. I believe the first thing I thought was, "This is a conspiracy!" But, after dealing with the constant pain of sinus headaches for a few weeks, I figured anything was worth a try.

So, I went home, filled up the Neti Pot and poured it into my nose. Here's what I found. 1. The experience did not feel like drowning, which had been my biggest worry. 2. The salt water felt really good and nothing like getting pool water up my nose . . .which is the only experience I had to coorelate with putting fluid into my nasal passages. 3. I blew my nose afterward and found that a good amount of mucus obligingly fled due to thinning. 4. The pressure in my head began to be ever-so-slightly relieved.

The other benefits of this unique little tool is that, if used regularly, it can really help clear out allergens and prevent seasonal colds. Also, once you buy the pot, the only other ingredient is salt . . . it'll last you forever and is one of the cheapest remedies you'll find. My mom and I have now been using Neti Pots for almost 10 years and I can't explain to you how awesome I think it is. I have since converted my sister and her husband, 5+ coworkers, roommates and random stangers. I would just say to everyone don't knock it 'til you try it.

(This video will give you a full demonstration if you wanted to see one and if you feel like you're "gross out" tolerance is above average.)
