I came across a very interesting article the other day that I wanted to share. I'm not trying to re-spark a hotbed issue. I know Prop 8 is dying down and everyone appears to be more cooled off about it these days. It seems with our media-centered society that we only remember an issue as far as it's broadcast, so is the issue really settling down, or is it that the news has moved on and therefore so have we?
My intent in sharing this article is to help us remember: to remember where we fit and what we believe. It's important to stand back every now and again and take a broader look. Between work, school, family, friends, church, obligations and everything else, the ins and outs and responsibilities of our lives can keep our minds constantly overwhelmed. When we take that moment to step back, I hope we're doing more than just absorbing that information . . . I hope we analyze it, process it, think about it, challenge it, source it and critique it, otherwise the perspective we gain will not be our it, it will be mine, or the Surfing Rabbi's, or CNN's or some kid on Youtube.
So with that in mind, here is an excerpt from the article called, "We All Are Mormons" by Rabbi Nachum Shifren (aka the Surfing Rabbi). It has to do with the attacks on the LDS church from those who opposed Prop 8. Take some time to decide what you think.
just so i'm not a tease
